June 2005
Anne graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 1989. Following
graduation, she worked for several years for a Fortune 500 company
focusing on the defense of commercial construction claims. Anne
then joined the Minneapolis office of a large national law firm,
working in the litigation department and continuing to broaden her
client base with general commercial litigation and construction-related
matters, primarily defense-oriented.
In 1995, Anne was invited to join the in-house legal team representing
a civil and environmental engineering company with headquarters
in Minnesota and branch offices in seven states. She served in the
role of Corporate Counsel, and provided legal assistance to both
the engineering and environmental business units in the areas of
general business practice, commercial law, corporate transactions,
regulatory practice, construction law, environmental law, international
law, intellectual property law, employment law, contracting and
corporate risk management. She participated in drafting professional
services contracts which continue to set the bar in the State of
Minnesota.
Anne joined an HVAC manufacturing company with world-wide presence
as its Senior Attorney in 1998. She was responsible for all domestic
litigation and dispute resolution for the manufacturing and service
business units of the company. She managed litigation strategies,
tactics, discovery proceedings, trials, and settlement negotiations
nationally. She advised senior management and staff in all areas
of business practice, and conducted investigations such as alleged
human rights violations and product hazard analyses. Anne provided
training as needed to all levels of company employees on various
legal and business topics, and helped identify and remedy deficiencies
in the company’s practices and work to achieve cost-effective
solutions. During her tenure at the company, she was instrumental
in effectuating a reduction in the number of outstanding claims
from approximately 300 to fewer than 10.
Anne joined the private legal practice of her mentor and colleague,
Glenn Purdue, as partner in 2003. Their practice includes primarily
business and corporate law, business litigation, manufacturing,
managed insurance programs, and the defense of claims. They serve
as legal counsel to consulting engineering, environmental consulting,
insurance, and manufacturing companies.
She has been published by the American Bar Association.
Anne serves the Minnesota Bar Association’s Fourth District
Ethics Committee.

Glenn E. Purdue
Partner, Purdue & Awsumb P.A.
May 2005
Glenn has practiced law for over 30 years. Following graduation
from the University of Minnesota Law School, he served four years
on active duty in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps of the
U.S. Navy, which was during the Vietnam era. His Navy JAG experience
included several hundred court martial cases as trial defense counsel
or trial prosecutor, and he was appointed a Military Judge. Following
that service, he joined a Minneapolis law firm where he represented
small and large businesses and government agencies in corporate
law, public utility rate regulation, commercial, environmental,
and construction litigation, eminent domain (condemnation,) large
energy development and transmission (natural gas and electric,)
and in other business matters.
He was managing partner of the law firm of over 30 lawyers for several
years during approximately 18 years with that firm.
In 1991 he joined a long-time client that practiced in civil and
environmental engineering with headquarters in Minnesota and
branch offices in seven states. He was its Senior Vice President
and General Counsel, and he also served the company as its Chief
Administrative Officer and as its Director of International Business
for periods of time. He led the establishment of the company’s
civil engineering joint venture company in The Peoples’ Republic
of China, and he directed the establishment of a liaison office
in Mexico. As General Counsel, he handled risk management, claims
and litigation, as well as corporate governance matters for the
company, and installed an ESOP. He participated in industry groups
on insurance and corporate law, and was the principal draftsperson
for an industry standard contract developed for two national professional
trade associations. During this period he served on an industry
insurance task force and served as one of the initial trustees of
a trust and as a director on the first board of directors of an
offshore captive insurance company.
In 1998 he established his own law firm in Minneapolis, which doubled
in size as Anne W. Awsumb joined the firm as partner in 2003. Their
practice includes primarily business and corporate law, business
litigation, manufacturing, managed insurance programs, and the defense
of claims. Principal clients are in consulting engineering, environmental
consulting, trade associations, and the business of insurance. He
is National Supervising Attorney for an offshore insurance company
which serves a national construction trade association and also
serves as counsel and business consultant to its association-sponsored
insurance program.
